The drive device for an impress tool, particularly for joining workpieces of ductile material, has a plunger for the impress process and a holding-down device axially displaceable relatively to the plunger for retaining one or more workpieces during the impress process. A drive (2,6,10) causes a plunger part (18) to move axially to operate the plunger (20) and a holding-down part (22) is axially movable by a force transmission device (30) to operate a holding-down device (24). The force transmission device has a compressed air chamber alterable in volume between the holding part and the plunger part. The compressed air chamber is compressible through an axial movement between the plunger and the holding-down device during the impress process to increase the holding-down force. |
