The system has a remote navigation device (14) and a vehicle-borne navigation device (16-24) that carries out a route instruction on the basis of route instruction data transmitted by the remote navigation device and that contains a device for transmitting a pilot route instruction request to the remote device, which responds with an instruction with less data than in a route instruction. Independent claims are also included for the following: a remote navigation device for transmitting route instruction data to a vehicle-borne navigation system, a vehicle-supported navigation device and a method of transmitting route instruction data to a vehicle navigation system.
