PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an aminophenol compound which is a synthetic intermediate for a benzazole compound useful as an organic light emission element material and has a nitrogen connecting substituent group at the 5-position and to provide a method for producing the aminophenol compound. SOLUTION: When an aminophenol compound represented by general formula (I) (wherein Y1 deotes an N-alkyl-N-arylamino group, a diarylamino group or a 5-membered nitrogen-containing aromatic heterocyclic group in which the nitrogen atom in the ring is bound to the benzene ring, with the proviso that Y1 is a diphenylamino group having at least one of an alkyl, an aryl, an alkoxy, an aryloxy, a dialkylamino, an N-alkyl-N-arylamino or a diarylamino group as a substituent group when the Y1 is a substituted diphenylamino group; R1, R2 and R3 denote each hydrogen atom or a substituent group; X7 denotes an acid group of an inorganic or an organic acid; and m denotes a number of 0-2) is produced, a compound represented by general formula (II) (wherein Y1, R1, R2 and R3 denote each a group having the same meaning as that described above; and R4 denotes an alkyl group) is passed through.
