[Also in Division Gl] A photosensitive device comprises a thin sheet of a polymeric compound having an electrode directly on each face, at least one of the electrodes being transparent to visible or U.V. radiation, the relationship of the work functions of the polymer and of the material of one of the electrodes being such that there is charge transfer across the interface when the device is illuminated, the polymeric compound being one in which there is a high degree of electronic orbital overlap between hydrogen atoms in adjacent polymer chains or a polymeric vinyl compound which carries groups on carbon atoms of the polymer chain which have a high electronegativity. The electrode may be Al, Na, Ag, Au, Si or Ge or a conductive polymer, e.g. polyethylene oxide, whilst the polymer may be polyvinyl fluoride, polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinyl acetate, polyamide, polyurethane, polyacrylic acid, polyacrylamide, or copolyvinylidene fluoride-hexafluoropropene. The electrodes may be made by vacuum deposition. In one embodiment one electrode is of Al whilst the other is of Ag.
