PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase an appearance quality and facilitate a mud removing operation by preventing mud from accumulating on a step for going up and down during running. SOLUTION: A step device for going up and down 21 for going up and down a cab side is installed on a side frame 9 forming the lower structure of a hydraulic shovel. The rotating step 23 of the step device for going up and down 21 is closely fitted rotatably into a support body 22 fixed to the side plate part 9C of the side frame 9. Also, a spring 26 is installed between the rotating step 23 and the side frame 9 through bolts 24 and 25, and the rotating step 23 is energized by the spring 26 always to a storage position on the side frame 9 side. When an operator goes up and down to/from a cab, the rotating step 23 is rotated downward from the storage position so as to abut on a stopper plate 27. Under this condition, the rotating step 23 is held at a foot rest position where the operator rests the foot.
