PURPOSE: A polyester dope dyed yarn having deep color properties even though it contains a small amount of a pigment and a process for preparation thereof in high workability are provided. Thereby, yarn breakage during spinning is reduced and productivity is improved. CONSTITUTION: This doped dyed yarn has an oval-shaped cross of a modification degree of 1.5 to 2.5 defined by the formula: a modification degree(K) = a diameter of the longest cross section(L2)/a diameter of the shortest cross section(L1) and contains 0.9 to 1.5% by weight of a pigment having an average particle diameter of 4.5 micrometer or less, wherein the pigment is carbon black.
