The integrated system comprising a smart card reader has an integrated computer input/output circuit has a reading device couplable to a smart card for reading and checking signals from it. The integrated computer input/output circuit is coupled to the reading device, receiving smart card signals from it, converting them to suitable computer smart card signals and emitting them. The reading device (220) receives the smart card signals and without any conversion conducts them to the computer circuit (210) so that the circuit, without interface, can communicate with the smart card (230). The reading device also has an engagement arrangement with a number of contact points for electrical engagement with corresponding contact points on the smart card.
