The method involves switching on a fan for an adjustable time, preferably using a time switch, when the heater (1) is started automatically or by a controller. Alternatively, the valve operation of the fan may be maintained by a temperature-controller for the length of an over-temperature of a heat exchanger, with respect to a set temperature of a control temperature sensor. The over-temperature of the heat exchanger is determined by comparing the temperature between the heat exchanger and the control temperature sensor. The fan is operated as long as there is a temperature difference. An Independent claim is included for a heater that can be operated using the method.
