PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deformation such as flexion due to fastening of a fastening band to reliably prevent a cargo from shifting by increasing strength of a top protector (top plate) of a cargo loaded on a pallet to be used for pallet packaging in transporting empty wine bottles, to prevent an outer sheet of the cargo such as the bottles from being broken, to make a corner piece of the protector mass-producible and inexpensive, and to insure easy and inexpensive fabrication of the protector. SOLUTION: The framelike top protector 1 for packaging a cargo loaded on a pallet includes four frame members 2 made of a metallic hollow material and four corner pieces 3, wherein each corner piece 3 is formed of a piece cut crosswise into a width equal to a height of the frame member 2. Each corner piece 3 is equipped with a corner wall 15 of an approximately arcuate form viewed from a plane and an insert part 16 protruding toward the adjacent frame members 2, 2 and inserted into coupling ends 2a, 2a of the frame members 2, 2.
