PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tension control device capable of executing tension control which is hardly affected by a steady deviation component. SOLUTION: The tension control device is provided with a 1st arithmetic means for calculating a deviation of an obtained tension detection signal from a previously set tension reference in the case of detecting the tension of a material in carrying and controlling the tension of the material so that the tension detection signal coincides with the set tension reference, a low pass filter(LPF) for inputting an output from the 1st arithmetic means, attenuating a signal component of prescribed frequency and more and outputting the attenuated signal, a level discrimination means for discriminating whether the output signal level of the LPF exceeds a prescribed value or not, a storage means for storing the output signal of the LPF when the level discrimination means discriminates the excess of the prescribed value, and a 2nd arithmetic means for subtracting the value stored in the storage means from the tension detection signal and correcting the tension detection signal.
