PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a optical transmitter for being used in a wavelength dividing multiplying(WDM) system. SOLUTION: A modulating device is provide with the width of a specific electronic inhibiting band and wavelength λg corresponding to this band. At a prescribed temperature, the wavelength λg is shifted from each λi only by Δλi. The prescribed value of the Δλi for obtaining suitable transmitting performance is allowed to exist for each wavelength λi. In this case, the actual Δλi is not made equal to the prescribed Δλi for all the values of (i), and a difference between the actual Δλi and the prescribed Δλi is called a detune error. This modulating device is provided with a second controller for minimizing the detune error. In a suitable execution configuration, when the wavelength of an optical source is changed (that is, when the different λi is selected), the temperature of the modulating device is changed by the second controller so that the Δλi can be controlled according to the above-mentioned reference. |
