PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pickup which enables tracking control and focus control to be performed well even at the time of recording onto an optical recording medium. SOLUTION: The device is constituted such that a hologram element 4 is divided into areas 4a, 4b, 4c and 4d by a first dividing line 41 extending in the track direction of an optical disk 1 and by a second dividing line 4m orthogonally crossing the first dividing line; that a photodetector 6 consists of a first light receiving area in which a light flux enters diffracted in the area 4a positioned on one side against the first dividing line 41, a fourth light receiving area in which a light flux enters diffracted in the area 4d, a second light receiving area in which a light flux enters diffracted in the second area 4b positioned on the other side against the first diving line 41, and a third light receiving area in which a light flux enters diffracted in the area 4c; and that the first, second, third and fourth light receiving areas are each composed of plural areas. |
