PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a thumbnail display by a moving image, in the case of thumbnail display in a digital recording and reproducing device. SOLUTION: Data are recorded in the format of an OPF in an HDD 119. In the case of thumbnail display, a list of titles recorded on the basis of the title file information of the OPF is prepared and displayed. Title file information corresponding to a title selected by a user is retrieved and digital data discretely recorded in a container unit are subjected to fast forwarding reproduction, on the basis of the retrieved title file information. When the user changes or decides the title selection, the fast forwarding reproduction of the digital data is stopped.
