摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of alignment treatment of liquid crystal realizing high alignment controllability of the liquid crystal on an alignment layer which is essential for a liquid crystal display element with not performing a rubbing treatment for aligning the liquid crystal in non-contact manner and to provide a liquid crystal display element having the obtained liquid crystal alignment layer equipped on its substrate with neither defective display quality nor destruction of TFT(thin film transistor) element when the display is turned on. SOLUTION: In the method of alignment treatment of liquid crystal, the liquid crystal alignment layer formed on the substrate is irradiated with light so as to impart liquid crystal alignment properties to the liquid crystal alignment layer. The liquid crystal alignment layer contains a polymer with a chalcone structure and the polymer molecules with the chalcone structure is in a state capable of moving so as to impart the liquid crystal alignment properties to the liquid crystal alignment layer on the irradiation with the light. The liquid crystal display element equipped with the liquid crystal alignment layer obtained by this method on the substrate is also provided.
