PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a color liquid crystal display system which uses a hologram color filter and which is bright and has good color purity and good color reproducibility. SOLUTION: The color liquid crystal display system consists of an illumination light source 21, a color light separating means 24 which separates the red, green and blue components of the illumination light from the light source into light 13 of two colors including a green component and light 18 including the remaining color components, a hologram color filter 5 disposed in the optical path for the light of two colors containing the green component, a liquid display device 16 disposed near the spectral condensing plane of the filter 5 to synthesize an image of two colors corresponding to the two colors, a liquid crystal display device 19 disposed in the optical path of the light of one color containing the rest of the color components to display an image of the corresponding color, and an optical system 28, 29, 30 to composite the images displayed by the liquid crystal display devices 16, 19 to form a color display image. |
