PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a press with which the reciprocating motion of a slide is speeded up while keeping the position of the slide at high accuracy and large pressurizing capacity is generated by a small output when working. SOLUTION: A conventional theme is solved by driving the reciprocating motion of a slide 1 with a linear motor 2 and, when it is detected that the speed of the slide is not higher than a specified speed by the output from a linear scale 3 or the load is detected with a load detector 4, by changing over a drive source so that pressurizing force can be generated with a servomotor 5 alone or the servomotor 5 and linear motor 2.
