PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric vacuum cleaner, with which a handle is independent at any arbitrary position. SOLUTION: In this electric vacuum cleaner, a sliding plane where a handle 8 is turned/inclined, is provided with gear-shaped ruggedness and a notch press- fixed thereto by a spring, a grip 8-2 of the handle is provided with a bar to be gripped integrally with the grip and the turn/inclination of the handle is locked or unlocked by operating the notch with a wire or rope for mechanically transmitting the movement of the bar.
