PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for the quick detection/quantitative determination of a chlorine-resistant microorganism such as cryptosporidium in a water specimen with a simple operation at a low cost without necessitating skilled labor and provide an apparatus to be used for the method. SOLUTION: A water specimen is treated with chlorine gas or a substance capable of generating chlorine to exterminate microorganisms in the water specimen except for chlorine-resistant microorganisms. The ATP present in the survived chlorine-resistant microorganism is extracted optionally after the disintegration treatment of the cell membrane of the chlorine-resistant microorganism. The detection or the quantitative determination of the ATP is performed by adding a luminescent reagent to the extracted liquid to achieve the detection/quantitative determination of the chlorine-resistant microorganism.
