PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of forming images almost the same in dot shape and different in density by forming an ink adhering region and an ink non-adhering region within one dot. SOLUTION: A filter 3 arranged between a recording medium 1 and a light source unit 2 is provided as a constitutional element and has a part permitting the irradiation wave or light from the light source unit 2 to transmit and a part reflecting the same. A plurality of the filters 3 are prepared corresponding to pixel densties and replaced corresponding to respective density data. An image forming means may heat the surface of the recording medium corresponding to image data and any means capable of heating the surface of the recording medium 1 corresponding to the image data to form an image is employed.
