PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an alkylene glycol in the presence of a catalyst having high activity and high selectivity. SOLUTION: This method for producing an alkylene glycol by reacting an alkylene oxide with water in the presence of a catalyst, is characterized by using a selenite or tellurite as the catalyst.
