PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for displaying a CID(Caller-ID) in a private switching network is provided to display CIDs on the computer screens corresponding to all the telephones connected to a private exchange. CONSTITUTION: A CID display unit(50) is comprised of the first interface part containing a trunk access part(52) and a digital subscriber access part(56), the second interface part containing a network access part(58), and a control part(54). The trunk access part(52) analyzes and obtains caller's telephone numbers and associated information loaded on a subscriber line of a public switching system. The digital subscriber access part(56), connected with a digital subscriber part(16) of a private switching system(10), analyzes and obtains trunk and extension switching information. The network access part(58) interconnects the CID display unit(50) and extension subscribers' computers(60). The control part(54) controls each of the components of the CID display unit(50). The computers(60) are in an one-to-one ratio with extension subscribers' telephones(30) and display caller telephone numbers and associated information, provided from the CID display unit(50), on their respective screens.
