The invention relates to the field of computers and can be used for data input in a computer or other devices using keys. The device contains a key and four pairs of transmitters-receivers forming four optical axes and arranged on a board. The first, second and third optical axis pass from three sides through the key in such a way that the axes can be interrupted with the aid of a working member (a finger) which protrudes out of the corresponding edge of the key which is then pushed from the corresponding side. The fourth optical axis passes through the hole in the key or above working surface of the key along the first optical axis in such a way that it can be interrupted by the key or the working member whereupon it pushes the key. The key input acts as an input device and the outputs of the key and receivers are outputs of said device.
