PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method for controlling a duplex controller for allowing a standby controller to realize the continuous processing of the operation of an active controller even at the time of generation of any failure invalidating the transfer of operating situation information from the active controller to the standby controller. SOLUTION: A failure controlling part 12 transmits failure generation communication information through a signal line 31 to a controller 20 when any failure is generated in its own device, and saves the operating situation information of a main storage part 13 to a saving memory 14. The controller 20 which receives the failure generation communication information returns the initialization information to a controller 10 for initializing the controller 10, and reads the operating situation information at the time of generation of the failure stored in a portable non-volatile memory 15 of the controller through a signal line 32 so that the continuous processing can be realized, and when the operating situation information cannot be read, the portable non-volatile memory of the controller 10 is transferred to the controller 20 so that the continuous processing can be realized.
