PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which has a light-shielding spacer on one of the inner faces of a pair of substrates and which realizes both of good display performance and high yield. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device 1 is equipped with a pair of substrates 2, 3 disposed facing each other and having electrode layers 19, 32 on the respective inner faces, a light-shielding spacer 20 to keep the gap between the substrates 2, 3 constant and formed on one inner face of the pair of substrates 2, 3, and a liquid crystal layer 4 held between the pair of substrates 2, 3. The spacer 20 contains a pigment and a plurality of kinds of polymers having different glass transition points.
