1,261,570. Discharge apparatus; electric cells. C. GRAF VON BERCKHEIM. 30 Oct., 1969 [2 Nov., 1968], No. 53103/69. Headings H1B and H1X. In an electrostatic air-conditioning device comprising an electrode 6 connected to a single- or multi-cell battery 9 and a current-limiting resistance, at least a substantial proportion of said limiting resistance is provided between the terminal contacts 10 and 11 of the battery. The battery may comprise a stack of galvanic cells 14 and a ceramic resistor 15 with a sheet metal contact 16, 17 at each end, Fig. 2, or one contact may be made of high resistance material. Alternatively, the battery may comprise a high resistance cathode electrode, in the form of a ceramic body containing carbon, immersed in an electrolyte in an outer metal electrode (Fig. 4, not shown) an outer surface of which is chemically treated to provide a high contact resistance. The electrolyte may be such that the internal resistance of the battery is very high. Two batteries may be connected to a switch (Fig. 5, not shown) to enable either one or both batteries to be connected to the electrode 6 which in the arrangement shown is mounted on insulating material 7 beneath the roof 5 of an automobile.
|
