PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To actuate a needle plying device for a sewing machine quickly and accurately. SOLUTION: This needle plying device for a sewing machine comprises a needlebar frame 22 supporting a needlebar 25 in vertically movable fashion, a motor 3, a needlebar frame driving shaft 19 fixed at one end to the needlebar frame 22 and supported for movement in a direction orthogonal to a cloth feed direction, a link member 14, etc., linking the motor 3 and the other end of the needlebar frame driving shaft 19, and a needlebar frame guide member. The needlebar frame guide member is a linear guide having a body part 27 fixed to the sewing machine frame, and a slider part 28 fixed to the needlebar frame. A part of the link member 14, etc., is of an elastic member.
