PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display unit with increased emission efficiency. SOLUTION: By filling a fluorescent layer with a fluorescent substance Zn2 SiO4:Mn having deeper green chromaticity than green color tone of a direct- vision cathode-ray tube color TV and an oxide fluorescent layer activated with terbium (Tb), a rare-earth element, as the luminescence center, layer of green fluorescent substance with higher brightness is realized. For instance, Y3(AlXGa1-X)5O12:Tb (Tb-activated YAG type florescent substance) and Y2SiO5: Tb (Tb-activated yttrium silicate florescent substance) can be used as oxide fluorescent substances activated with terbium (Tb).
