<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inversely quantize image data by using wide-range quantization characteristics with proper precision. SOLUTION: Quantization information is inputted to a quantization characteristic reproducing circuit for inverse quantization on a decoding side. For example, when the quantization information is composed of 5 bits (Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4, and Q5) starting from the most significant digit bit, the quantization information (Q1 and Q2) is regarded as a shift quantity and the quantization information (Q3, Q4, and Q5) inputted to a shift unit 110 is shifted, and an adder 112 adds the high-order bits of the shifted value to the value S1 obtained by converting the quantization information (Q1 and Q2) by a table part 111 and further 7-bit quantization characteristics are reproduced with the 4 bits of the value from this adder 112 and the lower-order 3 bits of the shifted value.</p> |
