Thermoplastic molding comprises a functional component (3) which is partially fused to a preformed layer (2) of thermoplastic foam. An Independent claim is included for production of the article by: (1) placing a preformed thermoplastic sheet between two mold halves one of which has a cavity corresponding to the shape of the functional element; (2) closing the mold; (3) feeding a thermoplastic melt though a channel in the cavity so as to fuse it with the foam sheet; and (4) cooling the product and removing it from the mold;
