In the present invention there is described the use of a cystine derivative of the general formula I, in which R represents hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, n-propyl or the group {-CORe1}, wherein Re1 represents a straight or branched alkyl having 1 to 12 carbon atoms, Re2 represents a straight or branched alkyl containing 1 to 12 carbon atoms and Re3 is the group forming an ester that is hydrolyzable in body liquids under release of an active substance in the form of a free acid or physiologically acceptable salts and/or stereochemical isomer thereof, for preparing a medicament for prophylaxis or therapy of restenosis.
