PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a solid polyurethane resin having a high glass transition temperature and high dispersing performances for magnetic particles. SOLUTION: This thermoplastic polyurethane resin for a magnetic recording medium is obtained by a reaction of starting materials in a molten state and has a glass transition temperature of at least 80 deg.C and a urethane bond group concentration of less than 3,000 equivalents/ton.
