PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal corrosion inhibitor which is capable of exhibiting high corrosion-inhibitory efficiency and consists of a specific polymer and in particular, is used for various operations in the petroleum industry, such as production, transportation, storage and refining of petroleum and also to provide a method for inhibiting metal corrosion. SOLUTION: This metal corrosion inhibitor consists of a vinyl polymer having within its molecule, organic groups each containing a 2-10C mercapto group, and/or 6-20C alkyl groups. This method for inhibiting metal corrosion is executed by using the metal corrosion inhibitor.
