PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide disperse dyes which have good dischargeability and, at the same time, excellent various types of fastness such as dyeability and washing fastness and, in addition, excellent build-up. SOLUTION: The disperse dyes are water insoluble monoazo disperse dyes represented by the formula (wherein R is a hydrogen atom, a methoxy group or an ethoxy group; X and Y are each independently a hydrogen atom, provided that X and Y are not simultaneously hydrogen atoms, or an acyloxy group or an alkoxycarbonyloxy group whose hydrocarbon moiety is a 1-6C linear or branched alkyl group, or a cyano group).
