摘要 PURPOSE: A GPS module control method in a mobile communication terminal having a GPS module is provided to heighten an accuracy of position information in each mode by variably controlling a period and an ON time of a GPS module according to a mobile rate of a terminal, and lengthen a life span of a battery by preventing an unnecessary power consumption as the GPS module is operates as much as a suitable time period. CONSTITUTION: In one of an idle mode and a sleep mode, a position data is transmitted from a GPS module to a handset(201). The position data transmitted from the GPS module to the handset includes a UTC indicative of an agreed international standard time, a 'lat' indicative of a latitude, a 'lon' indicative of a longitude, a speed and date. When the position data is transmitted to the handset, the handset extracts an item related to a mobile rate from the transmitted position data(202), and sets a period and an ON time according to the extracted mobile rate of the terminal(203). When the handset sets the period and the ON time according to the mobile rate of the terminal, reconstructs a new mode command based on it and transmits it to the GPS module(204), the GPS module is operated according to the period and the ON time included in the reconstructed mode command. Accordingly, the accuracy of the position information in each mode can be more heightened.
