The carousel, designed to be rotated by the people seated on it, has a lower assembly with foot-rests (4) and an upper assembly with seats (3) and rocking back supports (6), connected by angled shafts (1) with meshing gears (5). The gears are enclosed in a protective housing (8), and the upper assembly has an outer guard (7). When the upper assembly is rocked by its riders pushing down alternately on the seats and foot rests the meshing angled gears cause it to rotate. Where appropriate the rotation of the carousel can be used, by means of a pulley (9), to drive a pump extracting water from a well.
