PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting system and a projection device capable of decreasing the loss of the light quantity of projection lens by an afocal converter system arranged on the emitting side of a parabolic mirror by using the reflection mirror of the projection device as a parabolic mirror, and stably increasing the light quantity even when a lamp is exchanged. SOLUTION: The illuminator and the projection device are provided with a light source means equipped with a light source and a light condensing element condensing light from the light source, and an optical system extending the luminous flux existing at the center of the light from the device and compressing the luminous flux existing at the periphery part thereof. The loss of the light quantity of the projection lens is decreased and the light quantity is stably increased even when the lamp is exchanged.
