EDDY CURRENT ERROR-REDUCED AC MAGNETIC POSITION MEASUREMENT SYSTEM

A device for measuring the position (location and orientation) in the six degrees of freedom of a receiving antenna with respect to a transmitting antenna with multiple frequency AC magnetic signals. The transmitting component consists of two or more antennas (12) of known location and orientation relative to one another. Transmitting antennas are driven by an AC excitation (16, 17, 18) with each antenna with one or more positions in the frequency spectrum. A computer (15) then extracts the distortion component and removes it from the received signals providing the correct position and orientation output with a high degree of accuracy.
