2-(2-Hydroxy aryl)-thiazoline-4-carboxylic acids and derivatives as chelators of trivalent metal ions in therapeutic applications

2-(2-Hydroxy aryl)-thiazoline-4-carboxylic acids and derivatives thereof are valuable bioactive chelators or sequestrants for trivalent metal ions such as Fe, Al and Cr. They can be administered to human and nonhuman mammals to prevent the deposition of metal ions in body tissues. They are also useful for the elimination of iron from mammals afflicted with conditions such as haemochromatosis, haemosiderosis and cirrhosis. Chelation therapy using the thiazoline acid derivatives also has applications in dialysis, encephalopathy, osteomalacia and treatment of Alzheimer's disease.
