PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a multi-room air conditioner in which reliability is enhanced for vibration and thermal stress and piping work can be carried out easily and economically. SOLUTION: The multi-room air conditioner comprises indoor units associated with an indoor heat exchanger and provided in each room, and an outdoor unit coupled with the indoor heat exchanger of each indoor unit through inter- unit piping and having throttling mechanisms corresponding to a compressor, an outdoor heat exchanger and each indoor heat exchanger. The inter-unit piping comprises compressor side inter-unit piping for interconnecting each indoor heat exchanger with the compressor, and throttling mechanism side inter-unit piping for interconnecting each indoor heat exchanger with each throttling mechanism. The compressor side inter-unit piping interconnects each indoor unit with the outdoor unit through smaller number of pipes than those on the cooling operation outlet side of each indoor heat exchanger and circulates refrigerant from the compressor through the outdoor heat exchanger or each indoor heat exchanger thus cooling or heating each room.
