PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a facsimile machine with an automatic telephone answering function compatible with a dial-in service that can cope with the dial-in service without the need for an external device and effectively utilize the automatic telephone answering function in the case that an externally mounted telephone set is connected to the facsimile machine that is compatible with the dial-in service and integrated with the automatic telephone answering function. SOLUTION: This facsimile machine with an automatic telephone answering function controls a communication means or the externally mounted telephone set to connect with a line in response to a dial-in number, controls the line to connect with a communication line of a communication means when the external telephone set does not reply and controls the automatic telephone answering recording.
