PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain saving of energy, prevent deterioration of an environment, and make capable of early stabilization of an engine speed and early use of air conditioning, in addition so that an existing automobile can be easily reformed in the case its constitution is thus intended, by eliminating idling increasing a temperature to a prescribed value in a key part of an internal combustion engine, and markedly decreasing noise and exhaust accompanied by the idling, also eliminating a waiting time. SOLUTION: This water-cooled internal combustion engine is formed with a water jacket 3 in a peripheral part of a cylinder 2 with a piston 1 making a reciprocating motion to supply cooling water from a radiator 4 to the water jacket 3 to attain its cooling. A hot water storage part 6 keeping a temperature of hot water of fixed temperature or more to store it is provided in a cooling water path 5 connecting the radiator 4 and the water jacket 3, a means replacing water in the water jacket 3 with hot water on the inside of the hot water storage part 6, when a difference of temperature of a preset value or more is generated between the temperatures of water in the water jacket 3 and the hot water storage part 6, is provided.
