PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize the size of intermediate data prior to bit map expanding outline fonts. SOLUTION: A rasterizing process selecting section 3 selects a rasterizing method depending on the kind of a font and the size of a character. A rasterize processing section 4 divides and processes vector data generated in a line vector generating section 2 based on the selected method, expands into a bit map and conducts an image compression. An intermediate data generating section 6 generates intermediate data in a format selected by the section 3 and transfers the data to an expansion processing section 7. The section 7 bit map expands the data generated by the section 6 and transfers the data to an output section 8. The section 8 transfers the bit map expanded data by the section 7 to an output device.
