PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an end surface position measuring device for a plate body which can measure the position of the end surface of the plate body with high precision even if the plate body is transparent and its end surface is a broken surface of changes in beveling state. SOLUTION: A projecting means 101 is so arranged that when the end surface 105a of a work 105 to be measured is viewed right from its front, the light from the projecting means 101 is made incident having its optical axis obliquely to the surface of the work 105, and a photodetecting means 101 is equipped with a photosensor which can be so controlled that the quantity of incidence is maximized or nearly zero according to the light travels straight without being transmitted through the work 105 or is transmitted while refracting in the work 105.
