PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a relief valve having an undeformable shaft part of a valve element for controlling the outflow of a working fluid. SOLUTION: This relief valve is formed by an oil chamber 5 having supply/ discharge ports 1a, 1b for a working fluid and a valve element 2 which is disposed in the oil chamber 5, provided with a shaft part 2a slidably inserted in a supply port 1a and energized in the closing direction by a spring. in this relief valve, the shaft part 2a is provided with a slit 2c which radially pierces the shaft part 2a and is opened to the supply port 1a in the axial direction, and when the force in the valve opening direction, which is applied to the pressure receiving surface of the tip of the shaft part 2a becomes larger than the energizing force of the spring 4 so that the valve element 2 moves into the oil chamber, the working fluid of the supply port 1a is introduced into an oil chamber 5 through the slit 2c. This relief valve is provided with a connecting part 2g for connecting the shaft parts 2a divided by the slit 2c to each other with a void 8 left in a part thereof.
