An assembly which separates floating solids from liquids incorporates a helical conveyer in its upper section. The novelty is that the helical screw conveyer (13) is positioned in an inclined attitude within the floatation chamber (10). Pref. the helical conveyer consists of two sections of different pitch linked by a universal joint (14). The passages in the upper conveyer section (13/1) incorporate lifting projections (19). The upper conveyer section (13.1) is surrounded by a compression zone (16). A sieve (18) is located in the upper section (13.1) below the compression zone. A drain (17) leads from the compression zone (16) to the floatation chamber (10). The upper section (13.1) is articulated together with the compression zone. The floatation chamber (10) incorporates upwardly-directed precompression guidance panels (12), and a downwardly-inclined sludge flow base (11). The suspended solids are delivered to the floatation chamber (10) from a flocculation zone (8) formed by a loop-shaped pipe system (7).
