A storage tank has an inner container and an outer container surrounding the inner container. Thermal insulation (16) made of polystyrene is arranged between the containers. Preferred Features: The inner container has an opening on its upper side. The whole of the thermal insulation is located within the outer container and comprises several insulating plates (40, 41, 42) connecting together via connecting devices. The insulating plates have an aluminum layer. The connecting point between the wall of the inner container and the base of the storage tank and/or between the wall of the outer container and the base of the tank is sealed using a vinyl ester film.
