PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the structure of an article gripper. SOLUTION: The article gripper is so constructed that the bases of a pair of jaws for releasably gripping an article between their free ends are turned in opposite directions by a permanent magnet field system DC motor via power transmitting means, the current value to which motor is controlled at a given value or below to limit the maximal gripping force of the jaws. The rotational speed of the motor is controlled at a given value by an applied voltage.
