In a roller blind for a rear window of a passenger car whose width decreases from the bottom to the top, the free, extendible edge of the roller blind is attached to a telescopic tube. The pulling cords attached to the two ends of the telescopic tube run around deflection rollers which are arranged in the region of the upper corners of the rear window whilst the winding shaft of the roller blind is arranged parallel to the lower edge of the rear window. In the wound-up state of the roller blind, the telescopic tube is extended by spring force onto the lower width of the rear window and keeps the pulling cords parallel to the side edges of the window panes so that the pulling cords do not spoil the appearance of the window. In contrast, when unwinding the roller blind, that is to say closing the roller blind, the telescopic tube is retracted and, in the fully extended state, is shortened to the width of the upper edge of the rear window.
