PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission operating device requiring a less number of parts and simplified mounting work. SOLUTION: The transmission operating device comprises a body member 10, a pipe-shaped select bar 12 supported to be rotationally movable relative to the body member 10 and having an operation knob 12c at the end, a select positioning lever 28 rotationally moved together with the select bar 12 for transmitting the rotational movement of the select bar 12 to a transmission, a detent gate 24 formed integrally with the select positioning lever 28 and having a plurality of uneven grooves 24a, a detent body 18 having a detent engagement portion 18c engageable with the uneven grooves 24a of the detent gate 24 and mounted to be oscillated on the body member 10, a spring 26 for energizing the detent body 18 to be oscillated for the detent engagement portion 18c to be engaged with the uneven grooves 24a, and an operation cable 16 having one end connected to a select button 14 for the operation knob 12c and the other end connected to the detent body 18.
