PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To rapidly and accurately judge the configuration of an offset impact. SOLUTION: The average deceleration Gave in a specified time of the deceleration from a G-sensor installed near the center of a vehicle, and the wavelet conversion power value P of the decelerations from a G-sensor on the impact side among the G-sensors installed on the front both sides of the vehicle are calculated. When the plots of the calculated average deceleration Gave and wavelet conversion power value P come into an area on the P-axis side of the wavelet conversion power value of a threshold value curve f(G), the offset impact configuration is judged to be ODB. To the contrary, when they come into an area on the Gave-axis side of the average deceleration, it is judged to be ORB. The relation between the wavelet conversion power value P and the average deceleration Gave is different remarkably between the ORB and ODB and, therefore, judgment can be made more accurately. In addition, because the delay of time for calculation of the wavelet conversion power value P is small, judgment can be made rapidly.
